Today let’s delve into the pressing issue of stress management for busy women. Recent data from the World Economic Forum reveals that between 1990 and 2019, the global prevalence of mental, anxiety, and depressive disorders in women increased more than in men, impacting even young girls aged 15-19.
Deloitte's research further highlights this disparity, with 57% of working women in Japan reporting poor mental health, and 50% feeling 'burned out'.
With such alarming statistics, it's crucial we explore effective, science-backed relaxation techniques. Studies suggest methods like progressive muscle relaxation and listening to calming music can significantly reduce stress levels.
Let's open the floor to discuss how these insights can be translated into actionable strategies. 3, 2, 1, Start:
The effective way for me to relax immidiately is to do a quick “micro meditation”. You need to close your eyes and focus on your breathing. It’s not a magic 100% cure but it helps to calm down. Ideally such meditations should be part of a daily routine regardless of stress level (I do them at the start of my lunch break)
When I'm feeling overwhelmed, I immediately practice the 4-7-8 breathing technique. Breathe in for 4 seconds, hold for 7 seconds, and exhale for 8 seconds. It's a quick way to calm the nervous system
I swear by yoga stretches at my desk. Just a couple of minutes stretching can relieve a lot of tension, especially in the back and shoulders.
Watching a comedy skit has helped me personally, but I think it’s also important to note that it can be extremely hard to di-stress yourself when the boiling point is reached. I wish I had a magic solution
Running!! Go run in the evenings and I promose it will make you feel better
50% feeling burnt out! I haven’t looked into the statistics for men but 50% of burnt out women is insanely worrisome. Definitely something has to change in the working environment women experience in Japan.
BTW, I’ve experienced it myself so I’m part of this sad statistic
Have a drink of a strong herbal tea. The smell, the warmth and the taste helps relaxing your system
When I feel stressed,I go running. I keep running for like 30 minutes, and I start to feel some kind of self confidence. I guess it’s so called running high.
Eat chocolate. Maybe not the healthiest but one of the most efficient ;)
